This is a photography blog but I came across something on the web that I felt compelled to share. The technology website Gizmodo ran a post called The Agonizing Last Words of Programmer Bill Zeller. I did not know who Bill was prior to reading this article but his story is truly heart-breaking, and I think a must read for everyone.
The link above will take you to the article but, in short, Bill was a 23 year old programmer who took his own life. Before doing so, he wrote a lengthy suicide note explaining what brought him to this point and why he felt that suicide was his only option. Bill was a victim of sexual abuse as a child and it haunted him for the rest of his life. It is really hard for people who have not been through a traumatic event to fully appreciate what some one else feels and go through. In a final act, Bill has written a vivid and eloquent piece describing how his horror has impacted every facet of his life and how it has prevented him from moving forward and leading a “normal” life.
Without a doubt, it is a very hard piece to read and my heart goes out to those who knew him and were close. I would urge you to please read it and let it soak in. You will gain a new perspective on life.
